How can I extend the range on my UHF radio.?
How can I extend the range so i can transmit and receive from further distances.
Answer:
Not knowing for sure what type of radio you have or what government controls such things where you are, I can offer some generalities. A better antenna is the first step. If it's a handheld, that means a bigger antenna, but still made for the purpose. A base station can be improved for BOTH transmit and receive by a better antenna, higher up and clear of objects around it. This assumes very good coaxial cable. At UHF you need to use the very best you can afford, as the losses are tremendous in both transmit and receive at that frequency range. Keep in mind that UHF is line of sight and nothing can get you beyond the radio horizon. IF your system uses highly mounted repeaters, then using higher repeaters will help, but if it's just radio to radio, then for both transmit and receive, the antenna and feed line are the only place you can improve both.
